Dermal Fillers Can Take Years Off Your Face Without the Risk of Surgery

There are a number of changes that occur in your face as you grow older, leaving you with skin that’s increasingly etched with lines and slowly succumbing to gravity. Traditionally, the best weapon to restore youth was through a facelift, which while effective, is an awfully big undertaking and carries with it some risk and considerable downtime.

Thanks to dermal fillers, we can revitalize your appearance in just a few minutes — no surgery needed.

At Lafferty Family Care, Dr. Scott Lafferty and our team appreciate that our patients want to look as good as they feel. All too often, the aging process begins long before we’re ready, leaving us looking more tired or older than we feel. With cosmetic injectables like dermal fillers, we can restore youthful volume and dial back the years in mere minutes.

Here’s a look at how dermal fillers can take years off your face without the risk of surgery.

Turning the V upside down

When you were younger, your face enjoyed a V shape where your chin led up to high cheeks on either side of your face. Thanks to the aging processes, this V gets turned upside down as your tissue begins to sag downward.

There are several reasons why this occurs, starting with the natural loss of collagen in your skin. Collagen is the protein responsible for the elasticity and tone in your tissue, and its production is at its height in your early 20s. Once you hit your 30s, 40s, and beyond, your collagen production naturally begins to wane, which causes your tissue to sag and deep folds to form.

Next up in the aging process is a migration and deterioration of fat. While fat may be a bad word elsewhere, the thin layer beneath the skin on your face is what gives you that youthful plumpness. As your skin loses tone, the fat isn’t held in place anymore and begins to reposition itself — usually downward. As well, this fat also naturally deteriorates as you get older, making it disappear altogether.

Finally, photoaging, which is caused by exposure to the sun, can begin to catch up with you as you age. The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down your skin cells and connective fibers, which leads to thinning tissue and wrinkles.

Turning that V right side up again

With our dermal filler line by industry leader Juvéderm, we can tackle a number of the issues we outline above. Juvéderm fillers rely on hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in your body, to increase the volume in certain areas of your face. For example, with dermal fillers, we can:

Administered artfully, dermal fillers can pack a powerful anti-aging punch that leaves you looking younger and more alert.

And the best part? It takes us only minutes to administer the dermal fillers by injection, after which you’re free to go and show off your near-immediate results.

These results last anywhere from 4-12 months, sometimes longer depending upon how your body processes the hyaluronic acid. But once your results begin to fade, you can simply return for a follow-up treatment.
